Frequently Asked Questions
Core / General FAQs
Who do you typically work with?
We work with acquisition entrepreneurs, investors, owner-operators of SMBs, and lenders. This includes first-time buyers, independent sponsors, small private equity teams, and founders who need a reliable finance function as they run and grow the business.
How are you different from a traditional accounting firm?
Traditional accounting firms often focus on compliance and historical reporting. Our work is focused on clarity, decision support, and ownership. We approach financials from an operator's perspective and stay closely involved with clients rather than delegating work.
Do you work with businesses across specific industries?
We support SMBs across a range of industries, including services, manufacturing, hospitality, and construction. Our focus is less on industry specialization and more on understanding how the business actually operates.
Are you a good fit for very small or very large businesses?
We are best suited for SMBs with some level of complexity — typically businesses that have outgrown basic bookkeeping or are navigating a transaction, transition, or growth phase.
M&A Support / Buyer-Focused FAQs
Do you provide formal Quality of Earnings (QoE) reports?
Yes. We produce formal Quality of Earnings reports. Buyer work is scoped to the deal. Lender-commissioned SBA work is a report for the credit file.
When should a buyer engage you during the acquisition process?
Most clients engage us once they are serious about a deal — often after submitting or receiving a Letter of Intent. This is when financial clarity has the greatest impact on pricing, structure, and risk assessment.
Do you work alongside brokers, attorneys, and lenders?
Yes. We regularly collaborate with deal teams to support the buyer's perspective while remaining independent and objective.
Can a buyer-ordered QoE satisfy SBA lender requirements?
No. For loans that require it, the lender has to commission an independent report. That is a different engagement than diligence a buyer orders for themselves.
Can you stay involved after the deal closes?
Yes. Many clients ask us to remain involved post-close to help stabilize financial operations, improve reporting, and support the transition into ownership.
Accounting & Finance Operations FAQs
Do you replace an internal bookkeeper or accounting team?
In some cases, yes. In others, we work alongside existing staff. Our role is to ensure the finance function is reliable, well-structured, and delivering useful information to ownership.
What does "ongoing accounting and finance operations" actually include?
It typically includes oversight of day-to-day accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, cash flow visibility, and ongoing financial guidance as the business evolves.
Is this the same as fractional CFO services?
Not exactly. While we bring senior-level financial perspective, our focus is on building and maintaining a healthy finance function — not just providing high-level advice disconnected from execution.
How long do clients typically work with you?
Many of our relationships are ongoing. Clients often stay with us as their business grows or evolves because they value consistency, familiarity, and reliable financial insight.
Engagement / Practical FAQs
How do engagements typically start?
We begin with a conversation to understand the business, the situation, and what the client needs. From there, we scope the work based on complexity, timing, and priorities.
How do you price your services?
Pricing depends on the scope and nature of the work. We focus on clear expectations and transparent pricing rather than one-size-fits-all packages.
Will we work directly with senior team members?
Yes. Engagements are hands-on and founder-led, with direct involvement from experienced team members rather than being delegated to junior staff.
What if we're not sure which service we need?
That's common. We help clients determine the right level of support based on where they are in the ownership lifecycle.
